Timely Council Outfit

MAITLAND City councillors are a uniform group.
They voted on Tuesday night to increase the council's annual budget by a total of $2000 to cover the cost of a corporate wardrobe for themselves.
The navy-coloured clothes are marked with the council's logo, the town hall clock.
Until now the uniform has only been worn by council staff.
A council spokesman said councillors wanted to wear the distinctive gear when they represented the city at functions, meetings and conferences.
The exact cost of the uniforms would depend on how many of the 12 councillors wanted the garments. The council received no public submissions on the plans to amend the annual expenses for councillors. ? Paul Maguire
